I use Windows 2000 with a cable connection. We have a router, one IP
address, 3 computers.
Since we had a power outage over Christmas, it seems I'm often unable
to access sites such as Yahoo mail or Hotmail. I can still access
other favorite sites, although they've been laggy at times lately. I
can access them on the other computers, just not mine. I get the
"Cannot find server" message.
I ran Ad-Aware; Spybot S&D; ran NAV, which at one point told me I had
3 non-viral threat (iefeats?), but when I went into Safe Mode and ran
NAV so I could delete them, those did not show up.

Is there some browser setting I should be looking at? Not sure where
else to go with this. TIA.

Further information. When I run NAV , i find msiesh.dll ,
mssearch.dll , and winuv.dll . THis is supposedly a threat.
However, when I run the Symantec "fix", it claims these are not
present on my computer. And, when I run the computer in Safe Mode
and do the NAV scan, I also get the message that they are not present
on my computer.
What would be bad about just using Windows Explorer to find those
files, then deleting them outright? Course then I'd have to find
the corresponding key, I supposed.
Maybe it's time to head to Hijack This. :) Probably answered my own
questions.

First eliminate any scumware.
What You Should Know About Spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/devioussoftware.mspx

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
