Accessing bookmark file

Hello,

I have a question about bookmark in IE 6.0. I am using two
computers in my home network and with IE as the browser in both.
What I am looking to do is to use both the browsers off one bookmark
file so that I can access bookmarks created through any of the computers

through anyone.

I was looking towards finding if IE allowed me to define the
location of the bookmark file. in that case I could point both browsers
to that location and use that one bookmark file. Does anyone know if and

how to define the bookmark location in IE?

If not, is there any other way to achieve what I want to do?
Thank you.

IE uses a Favorites folder, not a bookmark file.

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys to point to a shared folder on the server:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

wow! thanks Alan.

a naive question: what is the prescribed way to edit the Registry with these
changes. I tried a registry edit in the past with not much success. Any tips
are much appreciated. thanks again.

Use Regedit (with extreme care and a lot of common sense)
Export any key before altering in case of error. (This is essential)
You have data already there to alter and that should help.
I hesitate to offer much more without knowing your capabilities or
what you mean by "not much success".

Alan,
I tried editing the registry with the path setting for
Favorites to say something like E:/bookmarks.html or in
the case of accessing the bookmark in another computer
(called agate) in the network
\\agate\\books\\bookmark.html.
However, the registry does not seem to save these changes.
i.e., if I close the regsitry after the changes and then
again open it, the earlier settings are shown and the
cahnges I made do not take effect.
Am I missing something here?

Also, for the settings you suggested in the registry,
should I search and replace all existing paths for the
Favorites item in every key of the regsitry?

Thanks again
