Accessing and deleting 'System Volume Information' folder

Al Dough

I'm running XP Pro (SP2) and have system restore turned on for my C
drive but not for my external D drive. However, the D drive has a folder
called 'System Volume Information' (related to system restore
apparently) and takes up 3GB according to Treesize.

I can't access this folder in order to delete it however. I've turned
all of the folder options accesses on, but it still gives me an 'Access
Denied' message.

Any bright ideas? Thanks.

System Volume Information contains other things other than System Restore
Points. It also contains catalog.wci for Indexing.
So I would suggest to be careful on what you arbitrarily decide to pitch.

If you turn off System Restore, then turn on System Restore ... all restore
points will be deleted and cleaned up ... theoretically.
If you still have something left over ... I would assume something else is
using it on your system
