access to files & folders / security

i have windows xp pro and am trying to install adobe
acrobat 6.0 and get an error message as follows...

'error 1303 (i believe this is specific to the adobe
software i'm installing): the installer has insufficient
privileges to access this directory: c:\documents and
settings\all users\documents\adobe pdf 6.0. the
installation cannot continue. log on as an administrator
or contact your system administrator.'

i've addressed this problem to the adobe group and have
discovered that i
may not have proper access privileges for this folder in
question. problem is... i can't even see this folder
using windows explorer (even while logged on as the
administrator).

does anyone know how to adjust these
privileges and/or why they may have been adjusted in the
first place?

although i've been researching in the help menus and the
microsoft knowledge base, i'm unclear on specifically how
to fix this problem.

thanks,
rob

Rob, that folder won't exist until after you've done the installation.
Suggest you use Explorer, go to the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents folder, right click, do New->Folder to make sure you can
create in that directory.

i thought the same thing, but when i goto

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users

the folder 'documents' doesn't exist therein. if i try
to create the folder 'documents' therein using New ->
Folder, the program comes back and says i can't create a
folder by that name because it already exists.

so since it already exists, what do i need to do to see
it/access it?

thanks again,
rob

Oops. I looked at mine and the symptom is exactly as you describe. This is
some sort of "special" folder. Very special. If you look at it with DOS,
Documents it is in the directory. It has a Read Only attribute set. I
removed the Read Only attribute - very strange. In Explorer the directory
"Shared Documents" disappeared and was replaced by a directory called
Documents. When I added the Read Only attribute back, the directory
switched back. Very strange! This is some sort of special animal. Sorry,
I don't know what to suggest (other than don't mess with it)
