ACCESS DENIED!!!

G

George

I am having much trouble with XP, so much so I won't describe it all. The
most pressing problem at the moment is that SP1 did not finish and it left
my system somewhat unstable. I cannot "Un-Install" Sp1 because it crash's.
I cannot re-install it because the update has left me with quite a few
directories on my C: drive as "ACCESS DENIED". I cannot open them, move
them, delete them, etc., etc... To compound the problem, directories like
$WIN_NT$.~BT which is required on installs as "ACCESS DENIED". HELP if you
can tell me how to get rid of the "ACCESS DENIED" problem, I sure would
appreciate it... OH... when I go into the START menu and attempt to execute
"Help & Support" I get a "Serious Problem" and it sends an error report to
Microsoft... OH Well....

Thanks again,
George Davis

Hi

There is an option left now and it will restore your system to the state before the updates were installed

Install your XP CD in the CD Drive and then go ot a dos prompt command and type this comman

sfc /scanno

This will check the integrity of the files on the system with the files on the CD. Since you have an unfinished installation of SP1 the files will revert to the original from the CD. Try this option and let us know if it succeeded
