Access denied when opening COM+ Applications in Component Services snap-in

Hi.

I was trying to debug an IIS application on Windows XP Professional when
Visuel Interdev told me it could not configure ASP for server side
debugging. I went to Component Services snap-in, as usual. When I clicked
"COM+ Appllications" I got the following error message (translated from
French):
---------------------------
Catalog error
---------------------------
An error occurred while processing the last operation.

Error code 80080005 - Failed to connect to server

The event log may contain more troubleshooting information.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The event log contains many error messages like this:

Service "COM+ System Application" has terminated unexpectedly for the 57th
time. For more information [bla bla bla].

What shall I do to correct this? Note: I've just finished installing my
computer with all the latest service packs and fixes.

Thanks for any hint/suggestion.

Addendum: dual booting between Gentoo Linux and Window$ XP. Boot loader is
GRUB.

Don't search anymore: I'm reinstalling XP, third time.

I am having the same issue but no dual boot. Just a plain WinXP box.
