Access denied to Drive D when trying to save a file on disc

I have windows XP home edition

Everytime I try to save a file to a Compact Disc in drive D, the office
assistant pops up and says that I do not have access to drive D and I need to
speak to my administrator to get access. The strangest thing is, I am the
administrator! I have tried accessing the user account in the control
panel, (I was the only one) and there are options to choose an administrator
account or a limited account, but can find no place to actually go into the
account and give myself access to drive D.

I then made another account with a fictitious name for another
administrator, but this account was also denied access to drive D.

It has not always been like this, it has started recently. I need to put on
stuff on disc, as my C drive is filling up.

I hope someone can tell me what to do, I have been trying to sort this out
for 2 days now, and I am climbing the walls. Thanks, Ruth

You cannot simple save anything on the CD unless it is formatted as UDF (Universal Disk Format). To format the CD as UDF, you will need a dedicated software such as Nero 6 or Roxio version 5, 6 or 7. Now tell us what CD writing software have you got on your system so that we can tell you how to format your CD?

The alternative is to save the file on your hard drive and then copy and paste using Windows explorer, hoping that Xps software will enable you to write the file direct on the CD. This is not the efficient way to do but in my long experience with Microsoft products nothing is efficient in Microsoft products!.

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

Dave,
Maybe you can help me... Since upgrading to XP, all the files I write to a
CD-RW are treated as read-only- I can't rename, overwrite, erase or move
them. I have Roxio Easy CD Creator v. 6, but don't see an option for
formating disks. Oddly, when I click on disk properties in the Roxio Classic
Creator menu, although I have a Sony CD-RW drive, it will only allow me to
select CD-R as the supported media type. I never had any trouble with
Windows ME. Any suggestions?
