Access denied message on pictures

I just defragmented my computer (Windows XP home version) and now i'm having
trouble accessing and saving pictures to sub folders.

I saved a new picture to my folders which was fine until i put it in a
subfolder then i can't move it or delete it or even preview it. I keep
getting an access denied message or- when i try to delete it the picture i
get a error message which says :

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

I;m not using a disk, my hard drive is nowhere near full, i'm an
administrator and the file is not currently in use. I'm going mad here trying
to work out what's wrong.

Help!
