Access Database will not completely close down

When I quit my Microsoft Access adp database I cannot re-open it. A look
at the running processes in Windows Task Manager reveals that MSACCESS.EXE is
still running.

My Close button runs the DoCmd.Quit command but it doesn't prevent this from
happening - nor does closing by click the X in the top-right corner.

Any ideas please? Thanks.

How long does the task run for after you close the app down? If you are
compacting on close and the database is fairly large it could take a while to
finish the task even though the Access window might not be visible. Keep an
eye on the file through windows explorer next time you close it down. It may
reveal an answer as to when the file finishes the compact process.

I went back to the database this morning 1 hour after last running it and it
was still present in task manager. I do not compact this database on close -
it's linked to a remote SQL Server anyway.

There is no ldb file still running once I close down.

It sounds like the issue might be with XP not closing the app rather than an
issue with your db. it is certainly not uncommon for MS apps to do this. I
have moved away from Outlook and use Thunderbird instead as Outlook would hog
the CPU on close and not shutdown. I have experienced MSAccess doing this
occasionally, but have solved it by running a registry checker and then
defragging registry and the HDD.
