Access database not accepting letter/number combinations for Excel

For the last few months, we've been putting together a database, and I recently tried to import it into Access. For the first few years, when we had nothing but numbers in the "catalog number" column, it worked fine, but when we got to some of the later files, where we had letters followed by numbers as catolog numbers, it wouldn't accept them, even though we had the field set as being text.

Obviously, it would be easiest to do as we did earlier and only use numbers, but since the data was collected that way for the last four years, and relabeling the the physical copies would be nearly impossible, that's not going to happen.

Is there any reason that the importer would not be reading the letters in this column?

Thanks,
Allyson

  1. Check the Input Mask Property settings of the text field.
  2. Open the Table in design view.
  3. Select the Text field and check the Input Mark property settings (if any) in the field property sheet below.
  4. If you find any settings there then remove it.
