Access available by itself?

I am considering buying a laptop that comes with MS Office small business
edition. This version does not include Access. I really need Access for our
business. Is this available to purchase seperately? I cannot seem to find
it available at local retail outlets.

You can buy Access stand-alone direct from Microsoft. I believe the cost is
somewhere around $400, though you should qualify for the Upgrade price. You
might consider upgrading the software, when you purchase your laptop, to the
Professional edition. It would be cheaper.

Actually, the upgrade box is only $150 Canadian dollars (last time I looked
at staples). This would mean if you have any older version, then ms-access
is rather cheap.

The full retail version of ms-access is listed at $309 Canadian dollars on
the staples web site.

In US dollars, that is about $271 for the full version, and the upgrade
price is thus only about $130 dollars.

As far as I can remember, if you have any old version of office...that means
you can get the full version of ms-access for $130. That sounds really cheap
to me...

15 years ago...you would regularly pay 500 for a set of developer tools.
Really, when I see the above prices....both are very reasonable to me....

Of course, if you need several of the office programs, then of course a
"bundle" or office suite will still save you a lot.

However, it seems the price of ms-access is quite reasonable when purchased
as a separate product...

Actually, my prices are even higher then what is listed on MS site...

They are:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/access/howtobuy/default.mspx

$229 for full version of access 2003
$129 for upgrade version
(qualifying versions for upgrade go back all the way to access97/office 97).

So, if you are like me, and have a self with 5 office 97 disks...you have
plenty of opportunity to purchase the upgrade version of access for $129....
