Access 97 .mdb won't open in access 2003

I have an access 97 database that I am attempting to open in access
2003. It sez: "unrecognized database format'C:documents and
settings\My Name\desktop\tilium roster.mdb'.

I click help and it gives it as error 3343 with suggested solutions.

I don't have access 97 any longer to look at it for it's sorting order
or whether there was anything like a *commit* in/on it. I don't even
know what those terms refer to. It is a Very simply database with
nothing hidden nor scripted.

Is there any way to see the info so I cam at least salvage my info

I thought .mdb _was_ the correct format??

Hope someone can walk me thru this.

Thanks,

Barb

Open Access but not the database. Click on TOOLS - Database Utilities -
Convert Database. Find your 97 and convert. It will prompt for a new name.
Open the converted copy under the new name.

I tried the method below and I get the yellow triangle saying the same
thing. It did not prompt me to rename. I found it and asked for
conversion to access 2002-2003. It doesn't seem to recognize it at all.
Help!!
