I have been trying to install Access 2000 Runtime Service Pack 3 for months
now and am continually told "installation unsuccessful". Trawling the
internet has yielded no answers. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks Tom,

But none of it worked. It seems the update says
"expected version of the product was not found on your computer"

I have also uninstalled and re-installed various times.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in anticipation.

Please do a search on your hard drive for the file: msaccess.exe

When you find it, right-click on the file. Select Properties in the list.
Select the version tab. What version number is displayed? If you have version
9.0.0.2719, then you need to install Service Pack 1 first, before attempting
to install Service Pack 3. You can download SP-1 here:

OFF2000: How to Obtain & Install Fully Downloadable SR-1 Update
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=258323

Is it possible that you need the Office 2000 SP3 for Office 2000 SR1
MultiLanguage Pack?
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Sp3lpk.aspx

Also, make sure that you are not attempting to install SP-3 for Office XP,
if you have either Office 2000 or just Access 2000 installed, since Office XP
includes Access 2002. Have you been attempting to use this 13.0 MB download
(O2kSp3.exe)?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-47d0-4306-9fa4-8e92d36332fe&DisplayLang=en

If so, you may need to use the full administrative update instead: O2ksp3a.exe
Go to the Downloads page here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm

Scroll about half-way down the page until you find "Office 2000 Service Pack
3 (SP3) File size: 59.5 MB".

Hiya Tom (and thanks),

Strange, I have 2 copies:

Program Files/microsoft Office/Office/
Program Files/microsoft Office/Office/Art/

Could this be the problem?

Tom,
When I download OFF2000: How to Obtain & Install Fully Downloadable SR-1
Update http://support.microsoft.com/?id=258323
It tells me SR-1 is already installed.

When I download Office 2000 SP3 for Office 2000 SR1 MultiLanguage Pack?
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Sp3lpk.aspx
It tells me the expected version was not found on my system.

My version of access is 9.0.6620.

Downloaded "Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) File size: 59.5 MB". And
there seemed to be 12 or more files missing from my pc?

Where on eart does this take me? I am more confused than ever.

Thanks

Tom,

Just tried to install ARTSP3ff, and there seems to be a ton of files (30 or
more) missing from a PFiles folder? Does not exist on my pc.

Thanks

Hi Ian,

I'm not familiar with ARTSP3ff. I wonder if this is some kind of application
that makes use of a runtime version of Access, possibly explaining why you
found two copies of msaccess.exe, including one in Program Files/microsoft
Office/Office/Art/.

Since you apparently have the software available to reinstall ARTSP3ff, I
think I would take a shotgun approach at this point. Use the Add & remove
software applet in Control Panel to remove this program, and remove all of
Office 2000 at the same time. Then, I think I would simply delete the Program
Files/microsoft Office/Office/Art/ folder, after ensuring that it is, indeed,
related to the ARTSP3ff application.

Use these KB articles to *completely* remove Office 2000 from your PC:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/219423
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247684 (if applicable)

After completing these steps, I would perform a disk defragment operation,
and perhaps even a scandisk, if your last disk check is more than 6 months
old.

Then I would try reinstalling Office 2000 first. Apply Service Pack 1, and
follow this up with Service Pack 3 (which includes SP-2 already built in).
After applying service pack 3, you still verify whether you need to apply the
latest service pack (SP-8) for the JET database engine. Use the instructions
shown in this article:

How to keep a Jet 4.0 database in top working condition
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=303528

In particular, pay attention to these three links within the above article:

Verify that the latest operating system service pack is installed
Verify that the latest Microsoft Jet service pack is installed and
Verify that the latest service pack for your version of Office is
installed

Hopefully, you will have success if you go to this extreme to start with a
clean installation. I'd worry about re-installing the ARTSP3ff application
only after getting a fully patched installation of Office 2000 restored.

Please let me know how it goes.

OK Tom, Thanks for your help. I am nervous about removing Outlook cos it has
years of emails stored neatly away. I am sure I can re-install using the
backup facility.

All the best.

I don't believe that removing Office, using the instructions provided in the
KB article, will remove any data files. However, just to be on the safe side,
you can always search your hard drive for *.PST, since this is the file
extension Outlook uses to store items on a local hard drive. You should
probably have this data backed up anyways. Restoring a saved .PST file is a
very easy process.

Here's something you might try, since you are hesitant to remove Office (per
10/2 reply elsewhere in this thread). Open Access, and then click on Help >
Detect and Repair. I don't know if this process is robust enough to restore
the missing files, and to allow you to proceed with installing the service
pack. It might be worth a try.
