Acces to User Files Denied after OS reinstall

I had a problem and had to reinstall Windows XP ( files missing/corrupt) and
my user files that i had prevented acces to ( by selecting "Make User files
private" ) can't be opened.
I receive the following message "Acces Denied , make sure you have the
proper rights to acces this folder" or something like that.
I tried creating an account whit the same name and password but that doesn't
work.
Is there anyway i can recover the files that where in the My Documents
folder ?
