a7n8x, q-fan worth using?

i use "speed fan" as my temp sensor program for my a7n8x comp and was
wondering how many of you use the q-fan option in bios? I've read
horror stories about cpu's melting down etc in forums etc.. I was just
interested in what anyone's opinion would be about q-fan technology?

thanks.

Q-fan doesn't kick up the fan speed until my CPU socket hits at least
50C on my a7n8x w/Barton, by then the CPU die temp is around 62C, still
below the 85C-90C max for AMD socket-A's and no doubt safe, but if you
are OCing you'd probably want the fan to kick in sooner then that. ;p

I have speedfan set to watch the cpu die temp.

SO you're saying , even with speedfan loaded, q-fan kicks in around
62c for you?

thanks

Can you not adjust the temp at which the fan runs at max in the BIOS?
I am using it on an A7V880, and it is set to run at max speed at 55C. The
only thing I notice is I hear the fan speed change as the temp changes.
One other thing I noticed is that the fan doesn't seem max spin as fast as
it did on my nForce2 based board. 3900 rpm v~4100 rpm.

Nope, there is no temp setting for Q-Fan on mine.
(A7N8X v2.0 BIOS 1004)

Do you have it enabled? The often other BIOS options won't appear unless you
have a feature enabled.
Though as I said I am using an A7V880.

Ya, been using x86 PCs since around 1991. ;p

Different animal :) this a7n8x with old 1004 BIOS only has ratio
settings to slow fan speed. I doubt they changed it in newer bios, even
if they did I wouldn't flash this board, it's been flawless for last 21
months.

Cheers,
