I never see any "speed fan" posts here?

I use a temp monitoring program called speed fan. I never see it
discussed here. I was wondering if anyone else used it. I know many
people used Asus' probe which comes with the cd installation.

If you've used both, which one is better and why? I get 39c at idle
and 46c after hard gaming.

System is
A7N8X
2500+ Barton Core
80 Gig HDrive
512 MegOfRam
Radeon 9600

many thanks

I've been using it for a short while with my first home-built system.
I prefer it over Asus' Probe for two reasons: first, it continuously
shows the CPU temp in the taskbar, as well as other temperatures
with a taskbar mouseover; second, it also shows the temps of my
3 HDD's. From surfing around the Web, it appeared to me that
SpeedFan is a pretty popular utility.

I get the same CPU temperatures with both Probe and SpeedFan.
However, I do have some kind of anomalous behavior with my
CPU temperature readouts - sometimes, I have 35C at idle, while
at other times I have 45C at idle. Go figure! Something is clearly
flaky about either the MB or CPU wrt CPU temp readout, I guess.

System is...
Antec Sonata Case w 2nd Fan
ASUS AV8 Deluxe MB
Athlon 64 3500+ Skt 939
ASUS V9520TD GeforceFX5200
Corsair RAM 2GB (4x512)
WD Raptor 74 HDD (SATA)
Seagate 160GB HDD (SATA)
Maxtor 120GB HDD (EIDE)
Sony 16X DVD-ROM
NEC ND-3520 DVD+/-R
Logitech Cordless MX Duo
Win XP Pro

I used to use PC Probe, I even made an add-on for it,
http://tinyurl.com/6bhxe , but PC Probe reads the CPU socket temp on my
"A7N8X", Speedfan can read cpu die temp, socket temp, hdd temp, etc, and
only eats up very little ram, plus the auto fan speed control is a lot
better then Q-fan IMO.

Someone just asked the other day about qfan, and I suggested they use
speedfan instead, and the response from the OP was he liked speedfan.
I use Speedfan also, like it, does a nice job.

I like speedfan because after gaming or doing something cpu intense my
temps go back to idle temps in less than 3 minutes. My ranges are from
38c idle to 46c pure hell. Someone told me those where great temps.
who knows...

thanks

Temps look good. Just curious... in speedfan advanced settings what do
you have set for HALT and S2K? I get lowest temps with HALT off and S2K
on.

| I'm using version 4.19 and I don't see those choices in advanced
| settings.

Select your chipset in the listbox to see those settings.
