A7N8X-E - Pressing power button - won't power off

I have the A7N8X-E Deluxe, with a 2800+ Barton CPU. I have Windows 2000
installed, with all the latest patches. All drivers and BIOS are at
latest revision. My problem - pressing the power button will not turn
off the power from Windows 2000 or BSOD. The reset button works. The
power button does turn ON the computer, so I know it's connected!

The power management is basically off, in Windows and in the BIOS. But,
for the 'Pressing the power button < 4 sec is soft off' setting -- not
sure if this matters. The problem is that I can hold down the button
for > 10 seconds and no response. So, if the system freezes, I have to
press the reset button and shut down from the OS, or shut off the power
supply manually.

If a system freezes your only choice is the reset button.

Basically once you load Windows the power options are controlled by the
OS, (like in WinXP there are options for setting the Sleep Button and
Power Button), so if the OS crashes those functions go bye-bye with it.

Fix the freezing. ;p

In BIOS you can set what happens when you push the power-off button. It's
typically in your Power Settings section.
