A7N8X-E Deluxe CPU Identification/Multiplier Problems

I recently purchasedan A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard with an OEM AMD
Mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ cpu and Thermaltake Silent Boost HSF.

Strangely, when the motherboard is set to default settings, the BIOS
recognizes it as an Athlon XP running at 800MHz!

When I ran throught the BIOS settings, it chose 133MHz FSB and 14x
multipler (1862MHz) which is the correct setting.

It appears that even though the BIOS says it's using 14x, it's
actually using 6x.

It also defaults the CPU voltage to 1.58v when it should be 1.45v.

I have been able to manually adjust the settings to run the CPU as
fast as 200MHz and 12x multiplier and it is stable, so I know the CPU
can run as fast as it should.

But not matter what I do, even when I set it manually, the multiplier
will always work at 6x when set to 14x.

I have upgraded to the latest BIOS (1008), no change.

Does anyone know how I can get this combination to work properly? Or
is it likely that I have a defective MB or CPU?

My instincts say that it's probably a jumper or BIOS setting that
needs changing... many of the multiplier setting choices seem to
server a double fuction, ie. 6.5x/14.5x.

Your help is appreciated!

I see a comment in this post:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&[email protected]&rnum=3

It says:

"I'm basically wondering whether it's possible to force the XP-M
to use its correct multiplier (eg: 16x) rather than automatically
revert to 133x6 because of the unsupported ''Powernow" feature."

Now, what is more interesting, is I cannot find any tech docs on the
AMD site for mobile processors, so I cannot tell you whether this
feature is controlled by a processor register, a pin on the processor,
a bridge, or anything else. Maybe one of the private forums has
some info...

HTH,
