Yes Mike, I agree, that every OS requires continual work. THE MAIN
DIFFERENCE however between Vista and Ubuntu, is that YOU paid for Vista. I
didn't have to pay for Ubuntu. With Ubuntu, I'm part of a community of
users. With Windows, you're a customer of Microsoft. Do you not understand
the difference? I can belong to a community that appreciates the efforts
of
the volunteer developers within that community who give me access to
quality and FREE software. In return, I don't mind testing their software.
They are creating it for me and the rest of the Ubuntu users and I feel an
obligation to help them produce the best that they can produce. With Paid
Software, it's a whole different paradigm. The Closed Source developers
aren't producing software because they want to help the community of
users.
They're producing the software to make a PROFIT on their software. Their
prime incentive to produce quality software is the competition they face
from their other corporate competitors, not because they feel an
obligation
to the end-user. With that kind of relationship, the end-user shouldn't
have to be a beta tester.

I'm not saying there is no place for Closed Source - Paid For Software.
But,
don't mix up the two and try and suggest that one is the same as the
other.
They are not! Understand?

Cheers.

Q: What OS is built for lusers?
A: Which one requires running lusermgr.msc to create them?

Virtually everything I run in Vista would not run in Ubuntu, so why would I
want Ubuntu, free or not? I use the OS which best serves my purpose, and
Ubuntu does not do that. Neither does MacOS. So I run Vista..

That's fine. Use what you need to use. I used to run Windows and it worked.
Then I discovered Linux and it worked far better and had all the tools,
utilities and software that I require. I don't miss any Windows software I
used to use as I've found better or comparable Linux equivalents. But that
wasn't the point of my posting and you know that. If you want to turn it
around into a Linux vs Windows argument, well, I think we've seen enough of
that around here.

Cheers.

All you bring to this ng is your unwavering hatred of all things MS.
Shame on you!
You are a disgrace to humanity.
Get lost.
Don't come back.
No one is ever going to switch to any linux distro based on you're
representation of it.

Since the "main" repository contains many many Open Source software
applications, updates are provided FOR ALL THIS SOFTWARE as they become
available. So when someone installs Ubuntu 7.10 for example, a release
that
was issued in October of 2007 and does this install months after this
release, one will see ALL the updates for ALL the software packages that
Ubuntu directly supports. Although some of these updates may include bug
fixes, usually they are there because of security updates. If some piece
of
Open Source software is found to have the potential of having a security
issue, when it is patched, it is included in the updates. The frequency of
updates isn't as you suggest because what is already installed is so bug
ridden.

Security fix == bug fix, unless you are saying the security holes were there
by design?

BTW why would a user install all these programs so that the updater has to
download them anyway?
Installing stuff you don't use is a security risk and you shouldn't do it.
That is why you should always do custom installs and avoid stuff you don't
use/need.
Even windows allows you to remove stuff you don't use. ;-)

LOL! So says the biggest troll who is probably the worst MS
representative after Steve Ballmer.

Linux is the future. Windows is the past.

More proof that you've never installed Ubuntu. You can choose which
programs you want and you can uninstall any that you've installed and
very easily.

How many click on the install all button though?
Do the users even know what the packages are from their, sometimes, odd
descriptions?
Have you got stuff on yours that you never use, do you run services you
don't use?
The answer is undoubtedly yes BTW so you obviously don't know how to install
Ubuntu, just how to let it install itself.

None that I know of. Where is that button?

I do. Can you give an example?

No.

Again, you don't know what you're talking about. You may think you're
fooling everyone by saying what you know what I do but, guess what, you
have never witnessed me install Ubuntu or installing any programs.

That is certainly one of your more stupid statements. Although I'm sure
you're capable of making even dumber ones.
Linux is the future.

You're dreaming.

Windows is the past.

More stupid, ignorant statements huh?

Still spamming I see?

Nope, the truth. Did you see what the EU did to your precious Microsoft

billion of your wimpy dollars.
Still spamming I see?

Please look up the definition of spam.
