Hi all,

I desperately need your help. My tool bar all the sudden
has this "search" browser bar on it. I can remove it by
right clicking and choose 'Tool Bar' and then
unclick 'Search Assistant". I believe it's a spyware so
i used spybot to remove it but still everytime i restart
my computer the search thing is still on my tool bar.
Please help me. I don't know what to do.

You definitely have spyware on your computer. You need to run more than
one anti-spyware removal tool, and you should run them in Safe Mode.
Here are some general instructions:

Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also want to
run CWShredder and HijackThis from http://aumha.org/freeware.htm.
Although CWShredder is no longer being updated, it will still clean
older variants of the CoolWebSearch malware. Please read the
instructions carefully. Also, make sure you've visited Windows Update
and applied all security patches. Do not install driver updates from
Windows Update. Make sure you are running a firewall and have a current
antivirus installed using updated definitions.

When I said toolbar I meant my taskbar. Does it still
mean it is a spyware?
Thanks

Since I can't see your computer from here, I have to take your
description of it from your posts. Since both your posts were pretty
light on details, I have no idea what you've got going on. Right-click
on the taskbar and see what toolbars are checked. I do suspect you have
spyware, and it certainly won't hurt you to run the removal tools.

If you want further help, please repost with a good description of what
you are seeing, toolbar names, etc.

Stewie,

The 'Search Assistant' deskband item (in the Taskbar) is a malware (Blazefind). Ad-Aware, SpyBot with fully updated definitions will remove it. If not, try this:

Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.
