A question about the taskbar.

My XP keeps insisting on putting the Language toolbar, even though I deselect
it from the taskbar. Any way that I can have it by default as off? I also would

like to keep some programs from going on the taskbar, such as quicktime.
I delete them, but each time I restart they're back. The AOL button at least
asked if I wanted it to go on next time, but these others are annoying. Thanks.

Of course You can disagree, but wait until commercial.

Right-click the quicktime icon and open the program..From memory there is an
option on one of the tabs to prevent it loading at startup. If not.......

Set a Restore point in case of mistakes ...

Type start > run > msconfig > startup
Then press ctrl with the + key (the one on the keypad) to expand the columns

Look for entries for ctfmon.exe (for the language options) and for
qttask.exe ( or something similar for the quick time startup location)

This will tell you the locations from which they are starting up. You can
then edit the registry to delete the relevant key

(start > run > regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or the location you have discovered them starting up from)
Right-click the relevant key in the right-hand pane eg "ctfmon.exe" and then
export as a .reg file (to backup in case of mistakes) and then right-click
the key and choose delete )

Other than checking your settings in Control Panel/Regional.....use the fix
offered here:

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

or:

Language Bar Remove (Line 194)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

As for QuickTime, uncheck it from msconfig.

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup (Line 148)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Control Panel - Regional and Language, Languages page, click Details.
At the bottom click Language Bar, and uncheck the Box. Apply where
offered on the way out.

That is a matter for settings in the program concerned. Many have a
'show icon in taskbar' in their own options; if they don't there is
nothing you can do, except use the Task Bar Properties - hide icons,
click customise, and set the one concerned to 'Always Hide'.
