hi guys,
we're starting a new kind of experiment, i'd be very curious in
hearing your impressions of it and how you think it might be
improved.

we've create the site http://www.donationcoder.com
and on it we are placing some freeware we've written plus reviews of
other software, and 5 daily blogs on software, and some other stuff.

we're are trying to make a donation based approach work. i know its
an uphill battle but we are committed to doing something good and
useful that everybody will be happy about.

some of the freeware programs we've released on the site:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Process Tamer
A tiny (100k) efficient app for windows xp/2k that runs in the system
tray
and detects programs that are hogging cpu usage and temporarily
reduces
their priority to keep your pc responsive:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drag and Drop Robot
A bit hard to explain - basically its a flexible gui drag and drop
tool for
running other commandline tools; you can define lots of
configurations, for
example you might make one for zipping folders, then whenever you
want you
just drag folders onto its window and it will zip them one at a time,
etc.:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Find and Run Robot:
Runs in your tray, you hit the break key to bring it up, then start
typing
the name of a program or something else in your start menu, it finds
matches as you type, then you hit a key to launch. basically its a
launch
tool for keyboard maniacs. Super configurable but also super easy
right
from installation without any configuration at all:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Url Snooper:
Sniffs network traffic and extracts the hidden urls of streaming media
files; has been around and used by lots of people for many
years;recentlyy
had some major new features added to it:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google Translator Boomerang:
A silly little program that uses the Google Translation engine to
translate
your english text to foreign languages and then back again into
english,
for some amusing results:

Nice site. Interesting software too. As for donations, it could work. I know
a couple of shareware programs that are pretty popular, but nobody pays for
them. I think the author would at least get a few donations if he went
"Donationware".

Best of luck with your venture!
