A Message has been sent but still appears in outbox

When a message is sent (while online), the messages gets sent but still stays
in the outbox. Unable to physically delete the messages from the outbox.
Any ideas, please?

Click File>Work Offline. Stop and restart Outlook. Delete the message.
Click FIle and uncheck Work Offline.
