"A duplicate name exists"...?

K

Kenneth

Howdy,

We have a five node net... all are Win 2K Pro. All run only TCP/IP.

Earlier today, we had a power outage. When power came up, we saw that
we had a network problem relating to one machine.

Now, when we try to move a file to System "A" from "B", we get the
error "A duplicate name exists on the network."

I have read all the MS-KB articles that mention this error, but none
seem to apply (precisely) to our situation.

On System "A" I have run IPCONFIG /RELEASE, and then IPCONFIG /RENEW.

Running IPCONFIG on that machine displayed properly before doing that,
and displays properly now.

What should be my next steps?

Sincere thanks,

R

You said a duplicate name, not duplicate IP address. See if this will help:
