A different problem with picture file extensions

D

Dave Roddick

I had the problem where I could only save as .bmp files,
with "untitled" in the filename box; and I deleted my
temporary internet files to fix it.

Now, files on the net with a ".jpg" extension get saved
to my hard drive with a ".jpe" extension. I can still
open them, but I hate the ".jpe" extension, because those
files don't show up in the file list of the "save picture
as" dialog box.

How do I get ".jpg" files to save with a ".jpg" extension?

Post an example link. Please disclose your OS and the procedure
you are using.

Also check if the image is cacheable. E.g. set Work Offline (Alt-F,W)
and press Ctrl-N (or otherwise attempt to load it while offline.)

FWIW I just tried a File, Save As... on XPsp1
The Save Picture dialog defaulted with:
Save in: My Pictures
View: Thumbnails
File name: same as in Address bar but without extension
Save as type: JPEG (*.jpg)

I clicked Save and confirmed that a new file with that name and extension
had been created. The next time I tried it there was a thumbnail of it too.
