A 2002 XP Question

J

Jan Il

First question: do you NEED both? Is it worth this aggro, Jan?
If so, you need to get 2000 installed and working right first.
Then install 2002, choose a CUSTOM install. Force it to install into a
different folder and show it a movie about Thor if it so much as MENTIONS
getting rid of the older version stuff for you. Which it'll try very hard
to do.

Now. You mentioned "upgrade". Does that mean that your 2002 is an upgrade
version? If so, I'm not sure if it WILL allow you to install as a
standalone next to 2000. It may insist on eating its ancestor.

Well...I have allowed the mighty Lionfish to consume the Guppy...and the
Lionfish now has a case of indigestion....all progs are acting sorta
'fishy'... ;-)

'k...I have now gone the whole wazoolie and done the Upgrade
installation...and I am still getting the 'I gotta be me' thingie when I
first open PPT, with the 'I gotta configure Mircosoft XP' whatsit box before
it will settle down and allow me to do my thing.

Steve...I know you gave me the FAQ on this type of problem before, and I was
a very bad girl and forgot to save it.
Pllleaassee.... would you paste that here again (pule, whine, shufffling
feet, etc), and I promise, I'll shine your tennies (or go-aheads) every day
when you come to San Diego next Oct. for PPT Live.

I really don't know why it wants to be such a PITW, even though I have given
it what it seemed to want, the whole show all to itself...but...

How can a boy refuse an offer like that?

Can I install multiple versions of PowerPoint / Office?

Yeah, it allows standalones. My desktop now has my original 2000, the
John, how do you have your folders set up? Maybe I'm not doing this part
right somehow...?

You mean where Ppt is installed? I let the installer specify, and taking a
look in /Program Files/ I see /Office, /Office 10, and /Office 11.

Now as I noted earlier...you have to go back to the /Office folder, make a
shortcut from POWERPNT.EXE and throw it to the desktop or your Start Menu.

(sorry, I disappeared for a day there)

And did anybody see Wednesday's Woody's Office Watch? The one about the Word
files on the MS websites with all sorts of personal info in them???
Wow......I think that issues affect Ppt too.

I went to the separate .exe for each program, and created a new icon for
them on the desktop, so that it would know which was which. But, it did not
seem to make any difference. It's like, if I want Tweedle Dum, I also have
to take Tweedle Dee. Even though they are in separate folders, and accessed
independently, they seem to be joined at the brain, and can't see things any
other way.

Hmmm, works for me. I can open either of the last three versions w/o
problems.

Yeah...I did do that too. I had separate Icons for all the progs for 2000
and 2002 on the desktop. Thought maybe you have done something a bit
different that might
affect how the files were allocated or the programs found them.
(sorry, I disappeared for a day there)

Heyyy.....you gonna keep that secret all to yourself?? I mean...I'd really
like to disappear for a day there...or even here, or maybe 2..or 3..???

Just found out about that now...went there....thanks for
the tip....

Glad you could keep up with my grammar there. :) Open one of your
presentations with Word, File > Open > Type: Recover text from any document.
There will be a lot of junk in there, but scroll through and see what pops
up. The scary stuff happens when you email the docs/pres...apparently
Outlook attaches your email addy and the subject line you use.

I just made the icons and renamed them something useful, such as Ppt 2002
and Ppt 2k.

(Drove to South Bend to take the latest A+ Cert exam yesterday. Spent the
whole day because I accidentally scheduled the second part in Indy, and it's
a bit of a drive twixt the two. Too bad the Prometric website didn't catch
that. BTW, that exam is their worst ever.)

Thanks Steve! I saved this post, and added the site info to my Fav's this
time. :)

Well.....best I start hunting up the old shoeshine kit. (Hmmm....wonder if
the Kiwi Sandshoe Armor Coating is still good.....or Omar's Instant All
Purpose Canvas Gloss.....??? ..)

Heh...no prob...when it comes to keeping up with grammar
I'm...ahmm...eh...'k....??

...so....I did open one of my presentations in Word as you suggested, and
there was a whole wazoolie of stuff and such in there. Heck...even some I
recognized! Yeah...that is scary. Although, the text looked pretty tame.
Is it only Outlook that adds the e-mail addy when it sends it, or does this
happen in OE too? I don't use Outlook, I use OE6 for my e-mails. Maybe it
is just a MS related thingie like a lot of other stuff. Would this happen
with a non-MS type program for e-mails, such as Yayhoo, etc.??

Well....that works for me. As you've probably noticed, I try to keep things
simple too.

That would be a drive alright...like LA East to LA West...and, yeah that
could take all day, maybe even 2, depending on what time of day you start.
Well...so..how'd ya do? Did ya pass..? Hmm..sounds like the Prometric is
probably
programmed like our new data entry program at work, Ellipse, from Mincom.
We call it Eclipse......does that give ya any clue about the program?
And...it's maintained and overseen by our IT dept......give ya any clue as
to how it
works? Shoooo....if it wasn't for being down all the time, it would have no
DDD at all.

Could the test possibly get worse than it has been? And, I s'pose they gave
you no reference book on speaking Klingon? Well.....next time you're up for
the test let me know. Just so happens I have such a program, and I'll
gladly send you a copy of my Klingon Tutorial. Kaplah!!!! Mikey would love
the Warno.....says it's a real delicacy, looks like Sea Worms. And,
yes....I do have such a program. It's a video Tutorial....really cool. Santa
left in it my Christmas stocking a few years ago.

Well....just to let you now that this problem is now not just limited to PPT
now. I'm also having a problem with Access and Word too. The special
effects on various Access forms, and some of the On Activation Event
Procedures, are generating error messages to the tune of Error in loading
DLL, and various other errors. In Word, when it first opens, I get a dialog
box that more or less says, "He, He, He! We can't find any files we like,
so we're just gonna just shut you down...phlubgth!!!!" Sheesh! The only
thing missing is the Jolly Roger!...8-o!

Funny how it does not happen in Excel? No errors, no problems...?

Bicycle chain grease is fine ... it's what I end up using anyhow.

This is exclusive to Outlook. And, even if you turn off the "add personal
info" thing in Ppt, Outlook adds the personal info anyway. (Outlook 2003
works properly, I read.)

We write a book. :) Uhh. on the subject of the exam, not Klingon.
ALthough I'm not sure which would sell better today. ;-)
