5+ minutes to boot up XP Home Edition

If I boot in safe mode it only takes 40 seconds to boot. I thought bootvis
would be ideal to identify the culprit, but I can't get bootvis to run. It
gives me memory errors when I try to run bootvis. My PC is Piv 3Ghz 1.5GB
RAM running XP PRo SP2. Can anyone suggest a fix for Bootvis or an alternate
means of monitoring the boot process to see what is causing the delays?

If you are getting memory errors you might want to run a memory test
memtest86+ being one

Memory errors are never good. Test your RAM.

Otherwise - what do you have loading up at startup?
(MSCONFIG --> Startup tab is a good place to start.)

Do you have the latest drivers - and just the drivers as most people will
never use all the control panel BS the companies give you - for each piece
of hardware (direct from the manufacturer)??

The main difference between safe mode and regular is that it does not load
all the device drivers and doesn't run all the startup crud. Start there.

Is the hard disk drive on the PC ok, I have found in the past that PC's that
can take forever to start do so because the hard disk drive is continually
attempting to read parts of the drive that are faulty?
