5.25 Floppy Disk Drive

Yes, turned on in Bios. I went on ebay and purchased
another 5.25 floppy and it does not work with WinXp.

You are correct and not correct. Winxp states support of
5.25 floppy, does it then matter to anyone that it does
not work. If Winxp had not supported 5.25 then ok,
however, it states support. Does Winxp support machine
code which is much older than 10 years? I have a device
Microsoft told me was supported; Period end of the 10
year old "buggy whip," discussion. If some one has a 100
buggy whip I would be more than happy to receive it and
place it in my car. Keith

SUMMARY
This article provides a list of the floppy disk formats that
are supported in Windows XP.
MORE INFORMATION
Windows XP supports the following floppy disk formats:
a.. 1.44 megabyte (MB) 3.5" floppy disk (read, write,
format)
b.. 720 kilobyte (KB) 3.5" floppy disk (read, write only)
c.. 1.2MB 5.25" floppy disk (read, write only)
d.. 360KB 5.25" floppy disk (read, write only)
Windows XP supports formatting only the 1.44MB disk format.
Three-mode floppy drives (drives that are capable of
reading/writing with 720KB, 1.2MB and 1.44MB 3.5" disks)
requires special driver support, and support for this
feature is not included in Windows XP.

Some 3mode FD drivers may be installed on PCs with Windows
XP by OEMs, although Microsoft does not provide the end-user
support for 3mode drivers. Please contact your OEM (Original
Equipment Manufacturer) if you have any questions on 3mode
drivers.

are manufactured by companies that are independent of
Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or

Group: I changed the BIOS settings and made the 5.25 the
a-drive and the 3.5 the b-drive and rebooted, WinXp then
read the 5.25 floppy. The floppy cables were connected
such that the 5.25 was at the end and the 3.5 was in the
middle. The icons were assigned incorrectly i.e., the
5.25 physical floppy drive had the 3.5 icon and vice
versa. There was one problem with this arrangement,
beside the one I mentioned, if I placed another 5.25
floppy in the drive WinXP would not refresh the floppy
information from the previous read.
