Hello Fred,

Was just commenting on the fact that 3 instances svchost.exe running at
once, is perfectly normal.... I'd have to say every PC I've seen running
2000pro had 3 also.

John,

Call me the master of perpetuating misunderstandings,
but what I meant was that I didn't understanding the
so-called troll. Your first explanation was perfectly
clear, but I appreciate the time you took to elaborate
on it.

And just to be clear and avoid disrespect and flames, I'll
clarify that I'm not insinuatomg that anyone is indeed a troll.
(Since I didn't understand it, I'm not in a position to make
that assessment.) In any case, it seems 3 svchost.exe is
not unusual, the reasons are robustness and performance,
and there are numerous ways to find out what services
are associated with each. Thanks, all, for the informative
discussion.

No need to bother Fred... there's always a couple in every newsgroup who like to just flap their gums and know everything about
everything, especially when it comes to making useless babble on how this product or that company sucks, instead of trying to be
helpful and offer up some worthwhile suggestions....

This is usenet, "trolls" abound here... just the way it is....

Hope your PC is all well now :O) take care

This is a discussion group, not an agony column or help line. Some of
us get bored reading the nth instance of the same newbie-food help
posts; "always keep your antivirus up to date", "what does your av
say; you can't tell what it is from the file name", etc.

If you demand help, pay for it. Else be thankful for what you get.

What is it that you don't understand? I am not in competition with
anyone here, although I do see someone wants to light the fuse. I am
going to killefile that person to avoid conflect. The number of
svchost.exe(s) varies. On my Win 2K pro machine, it's down to two. It may
have started out with 3 but what's running is two. On the Win 2K Adv
Server machine, I have seen it higher than 3.

I think this is much to do about nothing.

Not sure if you thought my "troll" comment was aimed towards you, but it most certainly was not..... It was aimed elsewhere...

If you got that impression Duane, I must apologize...

Now that I know, there is no problem JB. I have had some trolls come at me
as of late, and I have a hair trigger *Killfile* finger waiting for anyone
who even glances at me wrong. :):)

Duane :)
