I'm with Ady on this one, if it clicks - the drive is on it's way out... your best bet is to salvage what you can and buy a new drive (if it isn't under warranty).

I've had drives fail of me plenty of times like this, and they never last long once the clicking starts.

I'll buy another drive in malaysia over my holiday, and back my files up and try reformatting the faulty one later. I'll report back after that. Worth a try before sending it back. Until then, happy holidays! :D

[Typing in Malaysia]Don't know which one. 2 choices.
Western Digital 500GB 16mb cache - 225RM (RM is local currency) 6 GBP to 1 RM)

OR

Seagate 500GB 32mb cache - 250RM

Can anyone help me decide?

Looks like it'll be the Seagate then. While I'm there, I'm also gonna get more RAM, another 1GB stick. Also gonna get a Laptop.

AAAH!!! Both hard drives listed above are out of stock!!!
Ended up getting a Western Digital 640GB Hard Drive (16mb Cache) and is 255RM.

Also bought another 1GB stick of internal memory so I will soon have 2GB!!! :D
Also bought a laptop (Asus X80L it seemed relatively cheap around in Malaysia)
Anyway, putting the hard drive in luggage for the return flight, the rough handling on the baggage conveyors are almost certain to damage the hard drive and cause a head crash? Anyway to avoid this and get the hard drive back safely? Onboard baggage is not an option. Will bubblewrap and towels protect the disk? I don't want this fresh hard drive ending up like the Samsung drive in my computer now! :(
