2K/NT trust relationship failed on the domain

I have a new W2k DC that replaced a crashed NT4 primary
DC. There are two NT4 member servers on the network that
now cannot login to the domain. I have tried unjoining
and rejoining the domain from the local admin accounts,
which is successful, but actual logging on to the domain
from these NT boxes fails and gives an error about the
computer account not or password are (I don't remember
the exact words and cannot restart the server at this
time) These boxes are only on a single domain so there
aren't any cross domain trust issues. When logged on
locally, the NT boxes can see the 2k and access its
shares, but the 2k cannot access the NT's shares
receiving the error "the trust relationship between this
workstation and the primary domain failed." Both sides
can ping each other through both their IP addresses and
netbios names. I know there must be an authentication
issue on the 2k side of things, but I just can't pinpoint
it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks

Did you setup the W2K DC when it was connected to the network?
You can't rejoin NT4-servers to a new domain.

Technically it is indeed a new domain and you will have to reinstall those
NT4's I'm afraid. You might have a look at www.sysinternal.com for a tool
that can change the SID, but it really depends on the kind of hardware you
have.

Maybe I am mistaken but I know you can't change NT domain controllers to a
new domain (easily) but I have never heard that you can't do that to a
MEMBER server.

Tried re-SIDing the NT4 member servers, but no luck with
that. Found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
175024 "Resetting Domain Member Secure Channel" that may
help me out using the Netdom.exe tool from the Resource
Kits. I just have to find that tool somewhere, then try
it out.
