trust relationship with w2k and NT

hi
i am trying to establish a two way trust between and NT domain and w2k domain.

i am trying this in a lab environment first and here are the details.
Server1 = NTdomain
Server3 = 2kdomain
So far so good.
DNS and WINS are installed on both servers 1 and 2
Server1 and server2 can ping each other by IP and NetBIOS name
LMHOSTS files are configured on both servers
I start by adding the 2kdomian on the trusted domains of the NTdomain (still
with me?) no problems here
Then I open the trust snapin in the win2k server and try to add the NTdomain
in the “the domains that trust this domain†I get the following error
“The NTDOMAIN domain cannot be contacted.
If this domain is a windows domain the trust cannot be setup until the
domain is contacted. Click cancel and try again later.
If this is an interoperable non-windows Kerberos realm and you want to setup
this side of the Trust, click OKâ€
Any ideas cause I ran out

thanks

Try to make the wins servers replication partners with each other and then
verify that replication has occurred and that their are wins records for
domain controllers for both domains which means that the domain controllers
would need to be wins clients also. You have to configure the lmhosts files
to have listing for the domain controllers and not just the server to IP
mapping. If the lmhosts files are done right and you do a nbtstat -c on each
dc it will show the netbios names of the primary domain controllers with the
domain controller name registration designation. The first link below
explains how to do a lmhosts file for your need and keep in mind the file
name must be saved without an extension and that lmhosts syntax is case
sensitive. If all that looks good, you may have an incompatibility in
security policy/security options settings [ anonymous access, etc.] for the
W2K domain controller. See the last link for possible problems. --- Steve
