200Gb hard drive

I just built a new system with a 200Gb hard drive. Instead of "Ghosting" I
chose to just start from scratch. I wanted a newly formatted hard drive to
install Windows to, get all of the updates, then install my software.
Trouble is, pre-service pack 1 install disks only see 130 Gb of the 200Gb.
I can make a different bootable installation disk, but what files need to
be updated to recognize the entire 200Gb?

I think the easiest way would be to perform a slipstream of the Service pack
into your Windows XP installation disk. Do a search for slipstream to see how
it works.

Is it a Maxtor? Maxtor supply a utility than enables HDDs over 137GB.
I think it requires XPSP2 though.

Anyway, visit the site of the manufacturer of your HDD and see what
they say.

Hi,

You need to create a slipstreamed copy of WinXP with SP1 or SP2, then use
that to install the operating system. Instructions on creating one of these
disks can be found easily by searching google.com.

Even then, even with SP1 or SP2, some disks (eg Maxtors) need a
special patch to read beyond 137GB.
