2. Data Entry

E

Elliot

Using Excel 97 SR-2. Never had this problem till
yesterday.

Anytime I enter into a cell "2.", it auto enters "2.0.".
If I enter "22.", it auto enters "22.0.". It enters it
even before pressing the enter key. It seems to auto
display "0." every time I enter "." after a "2". This
doesn't happen with any other number besides "2". Happens
if I enter "2" from the normal keyboard, or from the
numeric keypad.

Thanks in advance.

Click Tools > Options > Edit tab
Uncheck "Fixed decimals" > OK
(It's probably checked, and for 1 decimal place)

It's unchecked. Thanks anyhow.

There may be an AutoCorrect entry for "2".

Choose Tools>AutoCorrect
Type a 2 in the Replace box, and the matching item should be
highlighted in the list of AutoCorrect items.
Click the Delete button, to delete the entry
Click OK

Thank you!! That was the problem. Don't know how it got
in there, but deleting it worked. Thanks again.

Hi Eliot!

Re: Don't know how it got in there, but deleting it worked

Seems that this type of problem is common around the time of Christmas
parties and April Fool's Day. So hunt out the offender!
