1881 Census CD set - Run Time error

Hi

I have recently purchased a new machine which runs Vista Home - I was using
Windows 98SE previously and had sucessfully used the above Family History
Programme. When I installed the viewer on to my new machine I attempted to
open the programme but keep getting Run-time error 339.

I have attempted to sort this problem out by altering the compatability and
administrator checks but this has not helped.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Regards

Anne

Frankly, my dear

Just a suggestion, Anne.
Set up a little Win98 partition and install your FHP on it.
Then create a link on your Vista desktop (or whatever) to it on the 98
partition.
I used to do that to run MS CFS 1 from XP - and it worked a treat.

How old is this CD set and is it still in production?
I see several posts in Google Groups related to RTE 339, but none with a
general solution.
You may want to try contacting the vendor to see if they have any
suggestions.
If the vendor cannot help, you might try looking at the file content to see
if the files can be viewed using other tools. For example, if you find .pdf
extensions, you can use Adobe Acrobat Reader to look at the content.

Ann, you probably have an older version of Viewer. I hadn't tried installing
Viewer yet, I have version 4, but on your query I tried it. I did get the
Run-time error as you did, but then at some point it went online and
downloaded some update files. I then opened it and got a different error
this time, but Vista must have sorted itself out, because when I opened it
once more all was well and I was able to use it
See if you can get the version 4 viewer.
