17" wide screen laptop - wider viewing?

Why do web pages and documents all crowd over to the left side of the screen?
I want it to fill my ENTIRE screen and clicking on FULL SCREEN only
increases the vertical viewing area. How do I get full horizontal viewing?
(My resolution on set on the highest setting - is this a problem?)

I bought the larger screen laptop for easier viewing and everything shows up
utilizing only about half the width of my screen. Makes me wonder why I
spent the extra money.

Can someone please help? I have tried to find answers but find I'm am
spending hours searching without finding the easy answer I know it must be!
Thanks!

You need to read the manual for the monitor and adjust the settings for
left, right, up, down, center, width, etc.

Web designers often try to accomodate the most common screen resolutions and
monitor sizes- 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 and 17" to 19" are common standards.
You probably have a resolution of 1920 x ? , which is nearly twice the
designed resolution.
If you maximize the window, and increse the font size you may have better
results.
Hold the control key and scroll the mouse wheel to test this out.
You can also use View/Text size.
Some pages have flexible (Liquid) layouts , which will work better for you
than fixed sizes.
Google "html screen size", or HTML Screen resolution" for more info.
You might also want to look at the IE accessibility options for more
flexibility.
You could decrease the screen resolution, but that would provide a worse
viewing experience in many cases.
