Why would you want to install TA? I've been with EarthLink since before
it was EarthLink, and although I agree its tech support is seldom
helpful, I have no complaints about my connection. I've never used any
of EL's proprietary software. It wasn't necessary back in Win9x and
even less so with XP.
As far as I can tell, 1603 is a generic install error. It doesn't tell
you very much. At what point in the install does it fail? Are you
installing from an account with Administrator rights? Did you turn off
a/v and firewall apps when installing? Try unchecking all "installation
options" (like PopUp Blocker" and "Make TotalAccess MailBox my default
...." and try again.
If all else fails, download it again (14.6MB!) or ask them to send you
the CD.
