1601 error

[Horizon]

I got problem logging into my MSN Messenger. System
keeping asking me to update version 6.1 but I encounter
error 1601 while trying to download version 6.1 . Please
advise me what to do. thks alot.

Greetings Horizon,

This usually happens if your Windows Installer is not working properly.

To correct, do the following -- click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

After this, run the install again.

Hey Jonathan,

I did the enter the code in run command and nothing
happens after that...for a couple of seconds, I get the
cursor with the time clock which indicates that something
is processed, but then the clock disappears and
nothing.....I am running Win XP and still face the same
error while downloading

Hi,

It sounds like something else might be going on, click Start, then Run, type "eventvwr.msc"
and click OK, click Application on the left-side, then look for Error's from the
"MsiInstaller" source. The most recent one should be it, assuming you haven't had any other
problems with a Windows Installer. Double-click the Error, and look in the Description field
for a more accurate description of the problem. If you post this description (there may be
multiple errors in the Event Viewer, so post all of them), we may be able to help much more
easier.
