help installing messenger 6.1

Help!

Whenever I try to download and install messenger 6.1 for
XP, an error box comes up with

"MSN messenger setup has failed with error code 1601.
please go to the MSN messenger web site and download the
software from there."

I downloaded the software from there originally anyway.
What is the problem? Micrsoft refuse to help me.

Greetings Bob,

This usually happens if your Windows Installer is not working properly.

To correct, do the following -- click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

After this, run the install again.

Do you subscribe to msn,msn messenger is really designed for use in
msn explorer (a dial-up ISP).But to answer the question,you dont download
msn messenger,you need to install in the open configuration,dwnloading then
opening the file doesnt cut it.
