i'm recording as 16:9 on my sony dvcam, importing in wmm2 also as 16:9
(options are set to pal & 16:9) but my film is playing in media player as 4:3
when importing with option "use best quality for playback on my pc" or even
if i try the custom sizes 2.1mbps or 1.5mbps)
i have a good result when importing with option "record back to dv camera"
but i am lacking disk space and would like to use the first option.
what am i doing wrong ?
many thanks for the help

Which version of Media Player are you using? Try some other player. I
recommend using Media Player Classic.

thank you for your time rehan,

i am using media player 10, however it won't make a difference since it's
moviemaker who's the culprit here. if i import the same one minute of video
recorded in 16:9, i tried it this morning, with an option other than the one
who's taking approx 178mb/min (record back to DV), i get a 4:3 ratio
otherwise it's fine.

Movie Maker -> Tools -> Options from there you can select 4:3 or 16:9!

In his first posting, from what I understand, this is already set that
way...

"i'm recording as 16:9 on my sony dvcam, importing in wmm2 also as 16:9
(options are set to pal & 16:9) but my film is playing in media player as
4:3..."

it's probably not a true 16:9 file on the camcorder... but a letterboxed
4:3. In which case you would need to render it to a new movie using MM2,
with the 16:9 option set... that new saved file should play as widescreen in
WMP.
