100 % cpu when installing programs to the hard drive.

I have not been able to track this problem down. MCSHIELD.EXE from Mcafee
yields a high cpu load, but i think that is because there is something funky
going on with Windows. I've disabled the Antivirus and still have problems.
This same Antivirus was on my pre-sp2 rig and did not have this issue. I'll
explain below.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Dimension 8200 with a 2GHz processor and
768 megs of Ram.

The current setup has a brand new WD 160 Gig hard drive on which I installed
Windows XP Pro with a slipstreamed SP2 and installed it. I have the latest
Antivirus and Firewall programs from Mcafee.

The previous setup had a Seagate 80 Gig hard drive with XP Pro on it and the
SP2 was installed on top of the already installed SP1. I was using the same
Mcafee software.

I did not have any issues at all with the previous setup. It is almost like
the process of slipstreaming the service pack has done something. I used
Autostreamer.

Anything I do that includes writing to the hard drive, and sometimes reading
from it as well causes my CPU to go nuts. I don't dare try and play a game on
this machine.

Google.com suggests that many people are having this and many more issues
where SP2 is concerned. This CPU thing is the biggest problem for me and it
is VERY annoying.

Anyone have any answers?

I suggested Process Explorer to you two days ago. Did you try it? What
Process is implicated?

Hope this helps.

re:

I replied to that message and told you that at that particular time
mcshield.exe was hogging the cpu. I've since done some test without mcshield
loaded and there is still a problem. Something is just not right.
