100% cpu explorer.exe

when I browse through my D: which is a partition of my only hard disk, and is
where I've placed "my documents", the window tends to freeze every time, and
when I press ctrl-alt-del, I can see that explorer.exe is taking up 100% of
my cpu time.. it then tells me the window is not responding and has to
close.. sometimes, even when I've closed the window, explorer will keep
taking up 100% cpu time, and the only thing to do is to restart my computer.
nothing like this happends when I'm browsing c:. I've scanned for viruses and
the like using Norton, Adaware and Spybot, plus I've defragmented twice, once
with windows own defragmenter and once with another one, but nothing helps..
diskchk didn't help either.. I'm really lost here, and it is very annoying as
it is almost impossible to access my pictures and videos and the like.. all
help is appreciated..

I have done everything you said, and no errors found..
When I want to for example go to my movies, they are located 2 subfolders
beneath "My Music", when I first go from "My Music" to "Movies", that works
fine, when I then continue to for example "funny clips" it freezes.. on the
other hand, I CAN create a short-cut from the desktop directly to the "funny
clips"-folder, and that will work.. I really can't figure out what is wrong
here, and really need more help..

Well all I can tell you, I use Mcafee antivirus. And everytime I go into My
documents, Same thing happens to me. But this is what i have figured out.
Maybe you can apply this to your case and fix it. If you are using anti
virus software, like mcafee or norton. There is a chance they will be
scanning your files as your just browsing through your hard drive or my
documents. So what happens to me is when I browse into my documents which is
filled with allot of large 500mb + files my documents frezze up for like 5 to
7 min. CPU usage at 100% Rest of the comp works fine if it doesn't require
high cpu usage. Way I figured to go around that is to place all big files
into a single folder. Most of them are EXE files to software and games that
after instalation i do not use much. So whenever I need to get into that
folder i disable antivirus for 30 sec until i double click on the file i need
and close the folder..
