Roger

Dear all,

When I execute cmd.exe, my window 2000 Professional pops
up:

The application failed to initialize properly 0xc0000142
click ok to terminate the app.

Thun I cannot use cmd prompt window. Any one know the
reason?

If you are only seeing this in cmd.exe all of the time and no other apps
this is most likely due to a mismatched, corrupt, or otherwise bad exe or
dll.

If you are already running SP4 the best way to correct this situation is to
let Windows File Protection put the correct versions of the files on the
machine, you can force this to occur with sfc /purgecache and then sfc
/scannow.

If you aren't running SP4 yet install it and it will correct most file
mismatches, there are some problems with sfc /scannow that were corrected
in SP4 (see Q814510 for details) so I don't recommend running it without
SP4.

Hi Craig, I noticed your return address. If you feel like it, take this
opportunity to introduce yourself! If you don't that's OK. Just curious
what you do at Microsoft, what department you're in, etc. Do you work with
Mark Z?

If so, Craig might like to ask Mark how not to attach RTF files to
newsgroup postings.

Thanks, Craig. I have installed SP4 at that time.
I have fixed the problem without much decency: Repair Windows 2000 from setup menu :(
I would like to be more patient to see your reply before repaire OS.
