0xc0000017 memory error with 2gb of ram

Hello,
I am experienceing this problem on two computers, both are running home with
SP2 and have 2gb and 768mb of ram respectively. I will be doing some
relatively memory intesive operations (such as gaming and listening to music
or using photoshop) when I am suddenly disconnected from the iternet and get
this message when i try to open taskmanager 'The application failed to
initialize properly. 0xc0000017'. I have read the support article regarding
this but it refers to a program called 'aventail' which I do not have on
either computer. Both have been scanned for viruses and spyware, and
defragged. I have been unable to find an answer to this anywhere.

How much RAM memory? Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and
click the Performance Tab. What is the Total, the Commit Charge and the
Peak?

You may check on pagefile (virtual memory) usage with Page File Monitor for
XP:
http://www.dougknox.com/

If you get anything much more than 20 / 30 mb virtual memory usage you
need to add RAM memory. The system uses virtual memory for a
limited number of tasks rather than RAM memory.

Make sure you study the readme.txt file carefully to ensure you get the
utility to work as it should.

Have you installed any "memory boosters" ?

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on each
drive / partition? How is the drive / partition formatted -FAT32 or NTFS? To
get this information, whilst in Windows Explorer, place the cursor on each
drive in turn, right click and select Properties.

This is what the pagefile monitor came up with (although i had not been doing
any gaming).
Current Pagefile Usage: 5 MB
Session Peak Usage: 5 MB
Current Pagefile Size: 3070 MB
I have 2gb ddr 400 on my current computer (the other has 768, but i'm most
worried about fixing this one). I have not installed any memory boosters, and
none could have been installed for me because this pc is my own build. My
boot partition (c) is 43GB (out of 250 gb), the remaining space on the disk
acts a a program files folder (and a second 250gb disk acts as more storage).
Both are formated NTFS.

defeat source (running antivirus in background also):

Your figures from pagefile monitor are fine but you need to look again
after
you have put the machine under pressure.

What is your normal practice regarding switching the computer on and off. Is
it left on for days or switched off after each session?

On your computer are Event Logs. It would be helpful to see copies of
Reports
relating to an incident where an application failed to start. You could find
these
for one incident in both the System and Application logs.

Look in the System and Application logs of Event Viewer and post copies
of Warning and Error Reports.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Under pressure for me is 1. playing dod 2. listening to music 3. antivirus
on. maybe surfing web. here is my pagefile after doing that (for two hours):
