Just a thought for a new name for this newsgroup. Maybe not being the
first on on the list might reduce the number of questions about other
Microsoft products. :)

Wouldn't that be nice!

Unfortunately, renaming a newsgroup is not a physical possibility.

Why not remove this newsgroup entirely on 31 December 2004 and redirect
people to use the getting started or whatever appropriate newsgroup
depending upon their question?

As renaming is not possible one could close this newsgroup and create a new
one "general enquiries" or whatever.

While we're at it the m.p.a.internet newsgroup is a dead loss.

A few reasons.
1) You can't do redirects in NNTP. When the group is gone, the group is
gone.
2) There is lots and lots and *lots* of on-topic traffic in this group and
we don't delete groups that are, for the post part, on topic.
3) Deleting a newsgroup can be tricky. The group will continue to live in
pockets of USENET and we don't want to do that to an active group.

Added to my list of things to watch.

Also, something to consider, these 'Training Posts'[1] often make their way
down into a few different microsoft.public.access subgroups. Simply getting
rid of microsoft.public.access won't do much but make them move to another
group. Tearing down the building because of rats just causes the rats to
move. Take care of the rats, and things are better.

[1] I am of the opinion that most of the non-technical, off topic posts are
coming from a couple of classes in a couple different countries. I'm not
talking about off-topic *technical* posts which can be for far many
different reasons and I'm not always as quick to remove.

How about a "microsoft.public.aaa-ng-selector." :)

m.p.a is the only one like it, there is no m.p.sqlserver they are all
further qualified.

Or was this seen as the m.p.a.opendiscussion replacement for the forum on
CIS?

Actually, microsoft.public.excel has a similar setup, as does
microsoft.public.visio.

Probably best to called it Cirrus, whose daft idea was Access anyway.(vbg)

Information at your fingertips, really. :)
