As far as I know it is 100% true. Can you cite an online resource that
says otherwise?

I don't know what it is with things supposedly being on a web site that
makes it true. Is this this century's "snake oil"?

Test it on your MACHINE, Ken! You don't NEED a web site! Put in a new
application, make sure you have only Windows SP2 firewall running and it is
actually going (in case you use ZA and it has turned it off). Make the
application, for example, something unknown to Windows. Now make it try to
contact internet outbound. You get asked if you want to block it or UNblock
it.

I currently have Boinc_gui, Medal of Honour, PC Anywhere, Tardis etc..... in
my EXCEPTIONS file! Gee, even ICQ had to be UNblocked to communicate
outbound!

There was talk of the Windows firewall blocking outbound traffic, but it
was not implemented. You are probably thinking of its settings for an
application that you can put in as exceptions to allow incoming packets
to reach the program

Nope. I am REMEMBERING when I tried to get certain progs to communicate
OUTBOUND for the first time after installing SP2. I had to UNblock them to
allow it without constantly asking!

SP2 and the current Zone Alarm do not clash, but at boot when ZA starts
up it turns off the Windows one as superfluous. That is fine, leave it
like that. The Windows one is to provide a basic level of protection
for those who have not got a third party one

One problem with that which I don't like. Sometimes ZA interferes with a web
site you want to see once (eg, not go back to, often) and so you decide to
turn ZA off. Unfortunately, SP2 firewall has to be turned on BEFORE doing
that. Wasn't like that in SP1.

Also, if you turn SP2 firewall on while ZA is on, one of the components in
ZA stops running and you don't get alerted. You have to shut ZA down and
restart it to get it back to normal.

Those certain progs would be trying to establish a port for other things
to connect in over. That is an incoming need, and SP2 firewall is
concerned. SO it asks you if you want to set up the connection - for
inbound traffic that may then result
