ZoneAlarm settings

I have a desktop PC running XP Home SP2. I connect to the Internet
via a cable modem. A few days ago, I installed the free version of
ZoneAlarm. I've been tinkering with the settings, and recently changed the
"Trusted Zone Security" from Medium to High. Will doing this have any
effect on Windows Automatic Updates working properly, or AVG Free Edition
being able to automatically update?

It should not matter unless you're running a home network.

I use a Wi-Fi network for connecting my desktop and laptop. I
installed the free version of Zone alarm on my laptop and it stopped
me accessing the shared files and the printer. I ensured the security
was set to the "Trusted Zone" which should have allowed access for all
computers on the network.

Even when I set the security to the minimum I was still unable to
access the shared files and printer. Only when I disabled Zone Alarm
could I get this feature to work again.

I have no idea what I was doing wrong! Any suggestions?

The free version of Zone Alarm does not have the Network function. I have my
laptop (client) and the pc(host) both running Kerio Firewall.
