I've tried various ways to install the new zone alarm, safe mode, all startup
items unchecked, even modified the registry key for zonelabs install security
levels for all users, permissions, etc,
and for some reason all folders under program files are marked read only
this makes no sense, I do have a hardware firewall, but have enjoyed zone
alarm in the past, the new updates to windows firewall and securities have
caused this problem, anybody got some suggestions how to install zonealarm.
I have also tried administrator and my personal user account (with admin
authority) no joy.

Yes, you need admin authorisation to install any software but you seem to
have made sure you're logged in as Administrator so this is not the problem.
Normal way is install is to insert the CD, let the autorun start the setup
program and go from there.

Are you sure your version supports XP?

Also disconnect from internet and turn off the Windows firewall. This might
be conflicting with your attempts to install ZoneAlarm. However I think the
ZA setup will detect Windows FireWall is active and prompt you to disable
WFW for the purpose of installing ZA. It's not recommended to run ZA and
WFW simultaneously.

What exactly are the errors you're getting?

Or it may be a simple need to clean the CD?

I'm not running this from a cd, this is a download free version of zonealarm
the error is access denied as the account doesn't have admin authority
well I'm installing it as admin, doesn't make sense..
