Zipcodes and Zeros with Office XP Mail Merge

G

Gary Donohue

I have a column of zips.

Some have a leading zero.

I have first fixed the column cellproperties to be GENERAL, and saved
the file.

Then I reformatted using CUSTOM 00000, and saved the file.

Next I go to WORD, set up a mail merge, and then edit recipents, and
the leading zero has disappeared, leaving me with a four digit zip
code.

Whats the fix

Use text formatted zip codes or do as follows

[In Word, after you have inserted the Merge fields, press Alt+F9, to view
the field codes.

In the field code for the Zip Code, you can add a switch to format the
number. For example:
{ MERGEFIELD "Zip" \# "00000" }

Press Alt+F9 again to hide the field codes, then view the merged data.]
