Zip files

I want to suppress zip files from showing up as folders in Windows
Explorer. In XP the command for that is "REGSVR32 /U ZIPFLDR.DLL".
What would be the equivelant of that in Vista?

Hi,

That command in XP just keeps them from being searched or opened natively,
it doesn't prevent them from showing up as zipped folders in Explorer.

OK, you've been around a long time and have provided invaluable help to
me in the past... for which I am deeply grateful.
But goldurnit, this time you're wrong... :)
*Before* running that command in XP, if I expanded a folder (on the left
side) that contained zip files, not only would it show the subfolders,
but all the zipfiles in that folder in the left pane. If there were lots
of ziplies in the folder it would take it forever to populate.
*After* running the command, it would only show the subfolders. If you
clicked on the folder itself, the zipfiles showed in the right pane as
you would expect.
I use Winzip and have no use for the frills.
All I'm looking for is a way to suppress it in Vista.

Well, I hate to disagree, Menno, but I just ran a test on an XP folder that
houses some 50-60 .zip files, I then repeated it by placing a handful of
files on the root of a volume. Whether unregistered or registered it showed
them all in Windows Explorer, both in the folders view and in the right
pane. And, I do know what you're saying about not wanting them in the left
pane, but with Vista I am unaware of any method of doing that. Perhaps with
Winzip installed it does something to block them from showing that way in
XP, but I haven't tried it in Vista.

Hmm, I know what you are trying to achieve but I don't have an answer. As to
the favorites in the upper left quadrant, there's no method to remove that
either.

Geez, I'm just full of good answers, ain't I?

I don't know how to get rid of the zip files on the left pane, but to
get (or at least hide) the favorites pane just grab the splitter bar
and drag it all the way to the top. The favorites pane is still
available, but it will be hidden.
